Betaine is a multifunctional nutrient supporting metabolic functions. Betaine is a crystalline alkaloid compound with the chemical formula:  (CH3) 3N + -CH2CO2-. Betaine occurs in many parts of plants (broccoli, spinach), in beet sugar molasses, in mussels, as well as in extracts of crabs.
